Accounting at Millersville University prepares students for challenging and rewarding careers in industry, public accounting, or not-for-profit and public sector organizations. The curriculum includes courses in intermediate and cost accounting, tax, audit, information systems, fraud awareness, Excel certification and more.

WHY STUDY THIS PROGRAM?

As the language of business, accounting is a critical skill that forms the backbone of information systems essential for decision making. Accountants are key partners in businesses, not-for-profits, and governmental organizations. As long as businesses and organizations exist there will be a demand for accountants. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) nearly 1.4 million accountants work in the United States and that number is expected to grow by 10% between 2016 and 2026. Part of what drives this growth is the versatility of the profession. It is a field driven by data and analytics. Accountants gather, analyze, and communicate vital financial and operational information critical to decision making.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Core curriculum courses cover a wide range of Business Administration topics including financial and managerial accounting, principles of management and marketing, informational systems, legal repercussions and more. The Accounting concentration dives deeper into the field to focus on intermediate accounting skills, federal taxes, auditing and more. Upon graduation students have available all the necessary coursework to sit for the CPA, CMA, CIA or CFE examinations. Most courses incorporate review material for professional certifications. We offer students the ability to complete Microsoft’s Excel certification program.
