Overview
Why Study Nursing?
If you want to work in a healthcare setting, and enjoy working with and helping people from many walks of life, nursing will teach you the clinical skills needed for a successful career in a hospital, community health setting, long-term care, professional organization, or church. Nursing graduate programs will allow you to expand your credentials and responsibilities, whether in an advanced practice specialty, administration, research, consulting, or educational role.
Nursing (BSN) Student Learning Outcomes
- Use knowledge of the Christian principles of the School of Nursing’s philosophy to develop caring relationship with self, patients, families, the community, as well as interprofessional team that confirm the intrinsic worth, dignity, and wholeness of all beings. - Provide compassionate and professional nursing care to individuals, families, and communities, based on the integration of concepts, theory, and knowledge from nursing science, and liberal arts education to form the basis of clinical judgment and innovation in nursing practice. - Demonstrate evidence-based, holistic person -centered care focused on the social determinants of health for the individual, family, and communities from prevention to disease management to provide spiritual, cultural, safe, quality, equitable, and inclusive care to diverse populations. - Demonstrate inquiry and analysis in applying patient care technologies and information systems to improve health and support safe quality nursing practice for the patient, family, community, and population in accordance with best practice and professional and regulatory standards. - Demonstrate effective communication, collaboration, and coordination with the interprofessional care team and health care consumers within a complex system in accordance with health care policy to provide safe, quality, and equitable care to diverse populations. - Exhibit a professional nursing identity that incorporates ethical principles, values, attitudes, and characteristics that includes life-long learning. (Domains 9 &10 QSEN Safety)

Program Requirements
Students who complete the requirements for a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree will be qualified to apply for the professional nurse licensing examination, the NCLEX-RN. This program for pre-licensure is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Major Requirements
47 prerequisite hours
50 hours of major coursework
120 total credits for graduation
Once accepted into the major, students must earn a minimum of a C grade in each nursing course to progress. Only one nursing course may be repeated.
All nursing majors are required to successfully complete a comprehensive examination in order to receive approval to graduate from the School of Nursing and Health Sciences and apply for professional nursing licensure.
