Overview
SECONDARY EDUCATION
DEGREE: B.S.E.
Millersville University's Secondary Education program produces passionate 7th to 12th grade teachers who are equipped to share their knowledge of English, foreign languages, mathematics, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, physics and social studies.
WHY STUDY THIS PROGRAM?
Millersville University strongly believes that teachers must both know the subjects they teach and how to teach them appropriately to students. Because of this belief, the University's Secondary Education program maintains partnerships with liberal arts departments to provide education courses, field experiences and co-advisors for future teachers interested in teaching 7th to 12th grade students.
The Secondary Education program resides within the Educational Foundations Department and features collaborations with select departments across campus including English, foreign languages, mathematics, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, physics and social studies. Successful completion of one of these courses of study will grant you a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) degree with certification in Secondary English Education, Foreign Language Education, Math Education, Science Education, Social Studies Education, or Secondary Education and Special Education Dual Certification. Students who successfully complete these accredited programs will be prepared for licensure exams and state teaching certification.
Millersville University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and approved by the American Association of University Women.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
The direction for your course work at Millersville University will be largely dictated by your chosen specialization in English, foreign languages, mathematics, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, physics, social studies or special education. In addition to that concentration area, you will also take courses in other liberal arts disciplines to broaden your understanding of Secondary Education.
All MU education programs involve a Foundations Block which explores modern teaching and the psychology of teaching, Professional Blocks which focus on instructional technology and positive learning environments, and a semester of student teaching.
