Millersville University's Chemistry Education program allows you to pursue a comprehensive study of the scientific discipline while gaining the skills to teach 7th to 12th grade students.

Prepare to teach in a 7th to 12th grade classroom without sacrificing any aspect of your study of the scientific discipline through Millersville University's Chemistry Education program. The chemistry department will expand your knowledge of the sciences while you simultaneously gain practical skills through the educational foundations department.

The chemistry faculty members at MU encourage students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, scientific researchers and creative educators. Various on and off-campus programs allow you to get involved in professional real-world experiments and projects that will ultimately help you become a better teacher.

MU's Secondary Education program maintains partnerships with liberal arts departments to provide education courses, field experiences and co-advisors for future teachers interested in teaching 7th to 12th grade students. By successfully completing this program, you will earn a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) degree with a certification in Secondary Chemistry Education and be prepared for Pennsylvania licensure exams.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The Chemistry Education program incorporates coursework and experiences from both the chemistry and educational foundations departments to create a collaborative curriculum that supports your interests in science and teaching.

You will gain confidence in research, analysis and presentation through a comprehensive study of the scientific discipline. Coursework explores organic and inorganic chemistry, and the physical, analytical and environmental aspects of this field. Students are granted full use of the chemistry department's eight fully-equipped instructional labs, and majors complete at least one semester of research in collaboration with faculty on campus.

All MU education programs involve a Foundations Block which explores modern teaching and the psychology of teaching, Professional Blocks which focus on instructional technology and positive learning environments, and a semester of student teaching.
