Program Overview

The master of science in data analytics and information systems program offers full-time students the ability to graduate in three full semesters and working professionals the flexibility to enroll part-time. Evening classes are offered face-to-face and via a technology-enhanced delivery format at both the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses.

All McCoy College degree programs are accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The accounting degree programs also hold separate accreditation by AACSB.


Course Work

The 30-hour curriculum consists of core courses that provide a blend of analytical and information technology skills that include: data visualization; predictive, prescriptive and descriptive analytics; machine learning; database management; data warehousing; scientific computing; and query languages. Students may choose a thesis or non-thesis option and may utilize an internship as an elective.

Program Mission

The mission of the Department of Information Systems and Analytics is to provide relevant educational opportunities to graduate students wishing to pursue professional careers related to information systems, technology, and data analytics. The Master of Science in Data Analytics and Information Systems (MSDAIS) program produces graduates with the skills required to be proficient in data analytics and information systems. Graduates of this program will be capable of transforming organizational data into actionable information using data analytics and information systems skills.


Career Options

The MSDAIS program provides conceptual knowledge and hands-on experience in analytics and information systems. Students will learn the relevant skills essential for positions such as data analyst, business intelligence analyst, and data analytics manager. The thesis option is designed to prepare students to conduct independent research and pursue doctoral degrees.


Program Faculty

The Information Systems and Analytics (ISA) faculty is a dedicated group of educators whose collective goal is to prepare students for successful careers in one of the fastest growing job segments today: information technology and analytics. Using hands-on projects, student interaction and targeted lectures, faculty provide students with the knowledge and skill sets sought by employers. ISA faculty have significant expertise in their fields; interact frequently with industry leaders to bring practice into the classroom; publish their research in peer-reviewed journals; and present research at national and international conferences.
