Overview
SCULPTURE
DEGREE: B.F.A.
Millersville University's Sculpture program helps students develop a thorough knowledge of sculpture and an individual artistic expression.
WHY STUDY THIS PROGRAM?
Students who want to explore three-dimensional artistic expression at Millersville University may find exactly what they're looking for in the Sculpture concentration within the Art major. Students work with a variety of materials stressing technique, content, intent and compositional elements.
All are encouraged to look at contemporary sculptors including those visiting artists showing in the campus galleries. Artists-in-residence also provide valuable resources to students. The artists act as mentors and are a great knowledge base. Students work to develop individual artistic expression and a personal idiom of expression.
The University's sculpture studio utilizes an outdoor iron forge and a complete bronze-casting foundry in Breidenstine Hall.
“Leah Yancoskie was born in North Carolina and grew up around Lancaster County. She spent her childhood in dilapidated farm houses. Peeling paint, decaying wood and weathered complex layering greatly influencing the aesthetic of her work. Yancoskie selected Millersville University because of the reputation of its sculpture department and casting foundry. She has been deeply involved in the art scene in Central Pennsylvania as a founding member of the Makespace Art Collective in Harrisburg and as an emerging artist resident at MU. Her work has been shown at numerous galleries and is part of numerous private collections. She is currently employed at the Laran Bronze foundry, one of the premier art foundries on the east coast, where she continues to expand her body of work and hone her skills.”
