Millersville University is one of the leading producers of mathematics teachers in the state of Pennsylvania thanks to the rigorous Mathematics Education program. This secondary education program is designed to develop your expertise in both mathematics and education to ensure that you are equipped to become an outstanding teacher for 7th to 12th grade students. Your course of study combines a full range of mathematics content courses from the mathematics department with educational methods courses from the educational foundations department.

MU's Secondary Education program maintains partnerships with liberal arts departments to provide education courses, field experiences and co-advisors for future teachers interested in teaching 7th to 12th grade students. By successfully completing this program, you will earn a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) degree with a certification in Secondary Mathematics Education and be prepared for Pennsylvania licensure exams. You also have the option to continue your study at MU as the mathematics department offers a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Mathematics degree program.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The Mathematics Education program takes students through a collaborative curriculum that combines your mathematical skills with your passion for teaching. 

Your study within the mathematics department will involve a wide range of courses in pure and applied mathematics, including calculus, computing, statistics, algebra and geometry. Meanwhile, extensive coursework in professional education will help you to build expertise in educational concepts and confidence in the classroom.

All MU education programs involve a Foundations Block which explores modern teaching and the psychology of teaching, Professional Blocks which focus on instructional technology and positive learning environments, and a semester of student teaching.
